Scheduled Tutoring

Student Expectations and Responsibilities for Scheduled Tutoring

BE PREPARED

For each session, I will bring all necessary books, assignments, handouts, notes, calculators, etc. I will have attended class and have questions ready. I will have attempted to complete my homework assignments to the best of my ability.

BE ON TIME

This appointment will be at the same time each week with the same tutor. If I cannot make it or I am running late, I will call 502-852-8114. I will be reliable and punctual to my tutoring sessions. This is my hour; I need to use it well. (You have 60 minutes, but if you need to leave early for class, just tell your tutor!)

ATTEND SESSIONS REGULARLY

I understand that two consecutive, unexcused absences without prior notification that is considered an excused absence will result in a 'dropped' tutoring session. I understand that I need to notify my tutor if I WITHDRAW from the course asap. *Excused absences are: illness, just took an exam, family emergency, school-related event. If a student is dropped from tutoring, they have the option to sign back up only if they contact the LRC Staff first.

PARTICIPATE AND COMMUNICATE

I will eagerly participate in the session by attempting problems, taking notes, asking questions, and making thoughtful comments. I will review material on my own time and bring in problems or questions so as to use my tutoring time efficiently.

BE AWARE OF THE TUTOR'S ROLE

A tutor is NOT a teacher. It is NOT the tutor's job to re-lecture, summarize the textbook, give me the answers, or do the homework. I will AVOID plagiarism (taking credit for another person's ideas), such as asking tutors to work directly with graded homework, but we can do similar problems and review concepts.

BE RESPECTFUL

I will act respectfully during the sessions through my words and actions. This includes turning off ALL electronic devices such as cell phones.

TALK ABOUT CRITICAL THINKING STRATEGIES

Once per month I will complete my Critical Thinking Check-In and will discuss my answers with my tutor during my next session. This will take about 5 minutes and will cover topics such as critical thinking strategies and study behaviors with the goal of improving my skills in specific areas and to help me become a better learner overall.

NO EATING IN THE LRC (BAB 250)

I agree not to eat inside the Learning Resource Center (Belknap Academic Building, Room 250). If I would like to eat during my tutoring session, I will ask my tutor if we can find a place to sit outside the center.
